Abstract: Glutathione related enzymes, which are the phase Ⅱ detoxification enzymes and antioxidant enzymes in vivo, have an important role in biological metabolism of persistent toxic substances. In this paper the detoxification effect of glutathione S-transferase and glutathione peroxidase on organic pollutants and heavy metals, and molecular research in these two enzymes are briefly discribed. The results of these researchs will provide us insight in the future applications of glutathione related enzymes in environmental monitoring and pollution diagnosis.
