Abstract: To investigate the effects of iron deficiency on physiological characteristics in seedlings of Adzuki Beans(Vigna angularis),four accessions of Adzuki Beans(13MY001,13MY007,FMY020 and JN6)were cultured in solution with or without Fe(II)-EDTA. Some traits were analyzed in 7,14,and 21 days. The results show that the iron deficiency significantly reduces the chlorophyll content, photosynthetic rate, root surface area, total root length and total biomass, and increase the Fe(Ⅲ)reductase activity and root respiration rate of Adzuki Beans seedlings. Furthermore, the differences between different cultivars are significant. The results obtained in this experiment indicated that the combination of the chlorophyll content, photosynthetic rate, and Fe(Ⅲ)reductase activity and root respiration rate could be a promising screning index for selecting of Fe-efficient genotypes in Adzuki Beans.
