Abstract: Bacteria releases one or several chemical molecules served as signal to estimate the density of bacteria and sense the change of environment. This chemical communication, called as “quorum sensing”(QS)is defined as a density dependent mechanism by which bacteria coordinate expression of specific target genes in response to a critical concentration of signal molecules. A many of studies had showed that the construction of various QS system depends on the type of bacteria. QS system exists widely in pathogenic bacteria, which build up the capability of infection, expression of toxic genes and pathogenesis. Therefore, it is a concerned topic in medicine realm that prevents and cures the diseases caused by pathogenic bacteria by targeting the QS system. Here, this review discussed the QS and its application in preventing and therapeutic effect for pathogenic bacteria.
