Mapping-based Cloning of a Wax Crystal-Sparse Leaf Mutant wcl1 in Rice

Abstract

Abstract: Here a wax crystal-sparse leaf mutant（wcl1）was screened from rice T-DNA Insertion Mutant Library. The mutant wcl1has two main features as following：1）the wcl1 leaf cuticular wax reduced；2）the drought sensitivity in the wcl1 plant was higher than wild type. Map-based cloning of wcl1 revealed that a point mutation of G to T in the 10th exonof gene LOC_OS09g25850encodingketoacyl coenzymeA resulted in the termination of transcription. The analysisshowed that the wcl1was allelic to wsl2.
